Can optical fibers be spliced without a fusion splicer tray

Fiber optic cable mechanical splicing is an alternate splicing technique which does not require a fusion splicer. Mechanical splicing uses a small, mechanical splice, about 6cm long and 1cm in diameter that permanently joins the two optical fibers. In this guide, we'll walk you through exactly how to splice fiber without a fusion splicer, covering the tools you need, the step-by-step process, performance specs, and common mistakes to avoid. By the end, you'll be equipped to make clean, low-loss connections in any field scenario. Unlike fiber connectors, which can be plugged and unplugged, splicing creates a fixed connection that is typically more stable and has lower insertion. Mechanical splices are used to create permanent joints between two fibers by holding the fibers in an alignment fixture and reducing loss and reflectance with a transparent gel or optical adhesive between the fibers that matches the optical properties of the glass. The goal is to achieve the lowest possible optical loss (signal. There are the two types of fiber optics splicing : fusion splicing and mechanical splicing. Each method has its own use, tools, and benefits.
