1024t Switch Aggregation and Uplink Mode

The DGS-1024T is an unmanaged switch, so it does not support configurable link aggregation or uplink modes; all ports operate independently at 10/100/1000 Mbps, with two combo SFP ports available for flexible uplink connections.

Port Overview

The DGS-1024T features 24 tri-speed 10/100/1000 Mbps RJ-45 ports and 2 combo SFP ports. Each port operates independently at full-duplex wire-speed, providing automatic speed detection and auto-negotiation. The combo SFP ports allow either copper (RJ-45) or fiber (Mini-GBIC) connections, but only one of the two options can be active at a time per combo port.

Aggregation (Link Trunking)Since the DGS-1024T is an unmanaged Layer 2 switch, it does not support manual link aggregation or LACP (IEEE 802. 3ad). This means you cannot configure multiple ports to act as a single logical link for increased bandwidth or redundancy.

Any aggregation must be handled at the connected devices (e.g., servers or managed switches) that support static or dynamic link aggregation, but the switch itself will treat each port independently.

Uplink Mode

The switch does not have a dedicated uplink port. Instead, any of the 24 copper ports or the combo SFP ports can be used to connect to another switch, router, or server. The combo SFP ports are particularly useful for uplinks to a backbone network using fiber optics, providing flexibility for longer distances or higher reliability.

Only one port in each combo pair can be active at a time, so if you use the SFP module, the corresponding copper port is disabled.

Practical Recommendations

Use the combo SFP ports for uplinks to other switches or network backbones, especially if fiber connectivity is required. For high-bandwidth connections between devices, consider connecting to a managed switch that supports link aggregation, as the DGS-1024T cannot combine multiple ports into a single logical link. Ensure proper cabling and port selection to maintain full-duplex operation and avoid collisions, particularly when connecting to gigabit-capable devices.
