Fiber stripper anti-tracking installation

Installing and using a fiber stripper with anti-tracking features ensures precise removal of fiber coatings while preventing static buildup and fiber damage.

Tool Selection

Choose a fiber stripper compatible with your fiber type and coating diameter. Mechanical strippers, like the Pro'sKit 8PK-326, are designed for standard 125 µm cores with 250 µm or 900 µm coatings and feature factory-calibrated blades for clean stripping without nicking the fiber core. Thermal strippers, such as the FITEL S251A or S218, use controlled heat to gently remove cladding from single fibers or ribbons, minimizing mechanical stress.

Ensure the tool supports the fiber jacket size you are working with, typically ranging from 0. 4 mm to 3 mm.

Installation and Setup

Blade and Guide Assembly: For mechanical strippers, insert the correct fiber guide and matched blade set according to the fiber's cladding and coating diameters. Many tools include a locking mechanism to secure the assembly during use.

Anti-

Tracking Features: Tools with anti-tracking coatings or textured rubber grippers prevent static buildup and reduce debris adherence. Ensure the gripper or handle is properly installed and clean before use. Calibration Check: Although factory-calibrated, periodically inspect the blades for wear and clean the stripping slot with a plastic brush or compressed air to maintain precision.

Stripping Procedure

Secure the Fiber: Hold the fiber with the integrated gripper or anti-tracking clamp to prevent microfractures. Position the Fiber: Align the fiber in the guide so that the coating or jacket to be removed is within the blade's cutting range. Perform the Strip: Squeeze the handles or activate the thermal element to remove the coating.

For thermal strippers, allow the heating element to reach the set temperature (typically 5 seconds for single fibers) before pulling the fiber gently. Inspect the Fiber: After stripping, check the exposed fiber under a microscope or inspection tool to ensure no nicks or residual coating remain.

Maintenance and Safety

Keep blades sharp and free of debris; replace worn blades promptly. Clean thermal elements and mechanical slots regularly to prevent tracking and residue buildup. Use ergonomic grips and spring-loaded handles to reduce fatigue during repetitive stripping tasks.

Store the tool with the locking mechanism engaged to protect blades and maintain anti-tracking performance. By following these steps, fiber strippers with anti-tracking features can be installed and used effectively, ensuring clean, precise fiber preparation for splicing, connectorization, or field deployment.
