Cable tray crossarm support model and specifications

Cable tray support crossarms are typically made of galvanized low-carbon steel, with U- or L-shaped profiles, designed according to load requirements, spacing, and deflection limits.

Material and Construction

Crossarms are generally fabricated from Q235 low-carbon steel using rolling processes, providing sufficient strength and durability for industrial applications. The cross-sectional shapes are usually U-shaped or L-shaped, which offer good structural rigidity. For corrosion protection, hot-dip galvanization is applied, followed by chromate passivation to seal zinc coating pores, ensuring long-term resistance to environmental factors.

Dimensions and Thickness

Thickness: 2. 5 mm, 3 mm, or 4 mm, selected based on the expected load. Length: Matches the width of the cable tray, commonly 300 mm, 400 mm, or 500 mm.

Flange width: For heavy-duty applications, the flange width may be increased to 60–80 mm to enhance stiffness. Load Ratings and Design CriteriaLight-duty trays (control cables): design load ~50 N/m. Power cable trays: design load ~150–200 N/m.

Heavy-duty trays (e.g., metallurgical workshops): design load >300 N/m, requiring stiffened crossarm structures. Deflection limit: Maximum sag ≤ L/200, where L is the support spacing. For example, a 1000 mm spacing allows a maximum deflection of 5 mm.

Support Spacing and Installation

Crossarms are fixed to cable tray connectors using bolts, forming support nodes. Typical spacing ranges from 500 mm to 1000 mm, depending on load and tray type. Proper spacing ensures mechanical stability and prevents excessive sagging or vibration.

Selection Considerations

Load requirements: Determine the type and weight of cables to select appropriate thickness and flange width. Environmental conditions: Choose galvanized or stainless steel for corrosive or high-humidity environments. Tray width and type: Ensure crossarm length matches tray width and supports the chosen tray type (ladder, solid, or mesh).

Deflection compliance: Verify that the selected crossarm meets deflection limits per GB 50217 or equivalent standards. Heavy-duty applications: Consider stiffened crossarms or increased flange width for high-load scenarios. By following these specifications and selection criteria, crossarms can provide safe, durable, and efficient support for cable tray systems in industrial and commercial installations.
