Tying the pigtail

Pigtails are created by dividing the hair into two symmetrical sections and securing each with a hair tie, offering a versatile and stylish look.

Preparation

Start with clean, detangled hair. If freshly washed, apply a small amount of leave-in conditioner to keep hair manageable. For second-day hair, use dry shampoo to add texture and reduce oiliness.

Brush or comb hair thoroughly from ends to roots to remove tangles.

Creating the Parting

Decide on your parting style: a classic middle part or a side part. Use a comb to create a straight, even parting from the forehead to the nape of the neck. This ensures balanced pigtails.

Securing the Pigtails

Gather one half of your hair and temporarily secure it with a hair tie or clip. Brush the loose section to smooth out knots. Gather the hair at your desired height (high, mid, or low) and secure it with a hair tie.

Repeat the process on the other side, ensuring both pigtails are even and symmetrical.

Styling Variations

Classic Pigtails: Simple ponytails on either side, secured with elastics. Braided Pigtails: Incorporate three-strand, French, or fishtail braids for texture and dimension. Bubble Pigtails: Section each pigtail with multiple elastics to create “bubbles” along the length.

Half-

Braided Pigtails: Braid only the top half of the hair, leaving the rest loose for a trendy, chic look.

Use hair gel or hairspray to tame flyaways. Add ribbons, bows, or other accessories to personalize your style. Adjust the pigtails to ensure symmetry and comfort.
