Fabrication of L-shaped Distribution Box

An L-shaped distribution box is fabricated through precise design, sheet metal forming, busbar assembly, and component installation to ensure safety, durability, and compliance with electrical standards.

Design and Engineering

The fabrication process begins with detailed CAD drawings and 3D models of the L-shaped distribution box, specifying dimensions, material thickness, IP/NEMA protection level, and component layout. The L-shape allows for compact and flexible arrangement of internal components, such as busbars, breakers, and wiring terminals, optimizing space and accessibility. Design considerations include reinforcement channels, slanted roofs for water runoff, and secure locking mechanisms for outdoor applications.

Material SelectionHigh-quality galvanized steel or stainless steel sheets are typically used, with thicknesses around 2 mm for outdoor boxes. Surface treatments like anti-rust coatings or powder paint enhance durability and corrosion resistance. All materials undergo quality checks for hardness, thickness, and corrosion resistance before fabrication.

Cutting and Forming

The steel sheets are cut, bent, and stamped using CNC laser cutting machines and punching systems. Holes for mounting breakers, busbars, and cable entries are precisely made. The L-shaped configuration may require custom bending angles to accommodate the layout of internal components.

Reinforcement channels are added to maintain structural integrity.

Busbar and Component Assembly

Busbars, made of copper or aluminum, are cut, shaped, and drilled to match the breaker configuration. Contact surfaces may be silver-plated to improve conductivity and reduce oxidation. Neutral and grounding bars are pre-assembled, and mounting hardware, cable clamps, and terminal covers are prepared.

The busbar assembly is mounted inside the enclosure on insulating supports to prevent short circuits. Main and branch breakers are then installed, ensuring secure electrical connections.

Finishing and Quality Control

Doors are fitted with hidden hinges and secure locking systems, and the box is checked for IP-55 protection or other relevant standards. Earthing points are installed, and the entire assembly undergoes final inspection and type testing to ensure compliance with safety and performance standards. Labels, cable entry points, and terminal covers are finalized before shipment.

Summary

Fabricating an L-shaped distribution box involves integrating precise design, high-quality materials, CNC sheet metal processing, busbar and breaker assembly, and rigorous quality control. The L-shaped layout provides efficient space utilization and flexible component arrangement, making it suitable for residential, commercial, and industrial electrical distribution applications.
